The 'deathbed confession' video -- which has now been exposed as a hoax, as per the REAL confession of filmmaker Mike Zieper, was sent to me on October 7, 2001. Here is the original e-mail:

Upon receiving this message, I immediately watched the video. I had to listen to the confession many times in order to transcribe it into text, and even then I made some mistakes. ( I was later sent a better transcription, from another source; which I also posted on my site, along with the video link.) As well, I e-mailed the video link to a small list of my colleagues, other journalists and researchers, people whose opinions I respect and whom I trust, asking for their opinions as to whether the deathbed confession were 'real' or a hoax.
