In a one-liner echoing discredited president Richard Nixon, who solemnly declared, “I am not a crook,” William Bennett, former Bush I Drug Czar and Reagan Education Secretary, proclaimed, “I am not a hypocrite.”
Outed by Washington Monthly for his gambling addiction, Bennett admitted that it cost his family $8 million.
At the same time, Bennett has enjoyed a lucrative business from the public perception of his superior moral authority, writing books like “The Book of Virtues,” The Children’s Book of Virtues,” “Children’s Book of Heroes” ad nauseam…
Hypocrisy, after all, is one of the basic Family Values of the Bennetts. Like the bizarre married tag team of Mary Matalin and James Carville, Brother Bob Bennett is a lawyer who defends Bill Clinton, while Brother Bill Bennett writes a book attacking him -- "The Death of Outrage: Bill Clinton and the Assault on American Ideals.”
Phony conservative and self-righteous moralist Bill Bennett is a member of the “Do As I Say, Not As I Do” School of Moral Theology.
