(7-14-12) On July 13, 2012, Chancellor Angela Merkel's spokesman said that Germany's Jews and Muslims will not be punished for breaking the law if they carry out circumcisions on young boys. This unusual phrasing recognized the legality of an earlier court ruling.
In May, the court of Cologne ruled that circumcision inflicts bodily harm and should not be carried out on young boys, but could be practiced on older males who give consent.
The ruling followed a case of a badly hurt boy taken to hospital after an attempt to circumcise him. The opposition to circumcision is wide also in the USA. On June 3, 2011, the Jewish Anti-Defamation League strongly condemned Monster Mohel, a comic book created by supporters of an anti-circumcision movement in San Francisco, saying it contained "grotesque anti-Semitic imagery and themes."
Unluckily, the ADL doesn't show similar contempt for non-consenting victims of Jewish mutilation practices.
The Male Genital Mutilation Bill group is pushing to make male circumcision illegal in San Francisco and has succeeded in getting their controversial measure on the November 2011 ballot.
