Killed too many Iraqi women and children? Feel kinda stupid fighting Bush's Iraq Nam? Maybe you're completely traumatized? Then Ecstasy may be just the ticket.
The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved the use of MDMA, the active ingredient in Ecstasy, to treat symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder like flashbacks and mightmares in American soldiers fighting in Iraq and Afghanistan, according to the UK Guardian. http://www.guardian.co.uk/usa/story/0%2C12271%2C1416073%2C00.html
According to the Guardian, psychiatrist Michael Mithoefer of South Carolina said: "It's looking very promising. It's too early to draw any conclusions but in these treatment-resistant people so far the results are encouraging.People are able to connect more deeply on an emotional level with the fact they are safe now."
Safe? Does Mithoefer reassure the combat veterans that they won't be sent back to Iraq?
According to the Guardian, "the existing drug-assisted therapy sessions last up to eight hours, during music is played. The patients swallow a capsule containing a placebo or 125mg of MDMA - about the same or a little more than a typical ecstasy tablet."
The question that needs to be asked -- which pharmaceutical company paid off the FDA to capture this potentially lucrative market of "traumatized Americans"?
